The world of video gaming has become so popular over the past few years that they have become a great resource for many of the new movies we see today. Actually, this isn’t as rare an occurrence as it may seem. We have seen video games being used in this fashion ever since they became popular. However, with so many of these video game movies coming out, there were quite a lot that really were not worth the time to watch. There have been a handful of these movies, however, that are considered classics in the genre of video game movies.
Let’s take a look at five of these great video game movie legends:
5. Prince of Persia
Prince of Persia is one of the more recent of the video game movie genre to come out. And while it may not have received a lot of rave reviews from the critics, the fans of this great game came to the theaters in a swarm just to see their beloved character, Dastan, played by actor Jake Gyllenhaal. This is also a movie that has surpassed others of its kind with the amount of money it brought in.
4. Mortal Kombat
This was one of the earliest video games that became a best seller in the industry. Upon its premier, it quickly made a name for itself. This was such a well known game that practically anyone who has handled a joystick or picked up a game pad has played it at some point in time. From it’s very first movie, which was a box office smash, we discovered a whole series that was soon created based around this game.
3. Resident Evil
Resident Evil has been referred to as one of the scariest video games out there by gaming fans. With its abundance of dark twists and turns in the plot, and Mila Jovovich playing the character of Alice, we got an extremely accurate and realistic representation of this video game. In fact, it was so good that they decided to make a sequel. It didn’t get the high reviews that the first movie received, but that is often common of any sequels.
2. Final Fantasy
For all of those role playing game fans out there, this game hit the circuit and has remained a major fan favorite for over two decades. Final Fantasy also brought in an innovative new design and feel to the movie that has since become the model on which many fantasy based movies have been created. What fans liked most was that the movie stuck pretty close to the games storyline, and they had an opportunity to really get a feel for the characters.
1. Tomb Raider
Who can forget this classic? Many of us spent hours adventuring as Lara Croft. Tomb Raider has become one of the most popular video game movies, and franchises, of its time. With actress Angelina Jolie fitting the role of Lara Croft in an impressive performance, Tomb Raider was taken out of the game and brought to life. It was a high quality production and played out well. And, Angelina Jolie made those stunts seem like a piece of cake.
