Top 5 Scariest Coasters in the U.S.

Not all roller coasters are created equally—some are bigger, faster and scarier than the rest!  If you like the adrenaline rush from 300 foot drops, speeds of up to 100 mph, or four G’s of energy then the below coasters are just for you!

The below top 5 coasters have been deemed the most scariest coasters in America:

5. Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ

kingda ka

Kingda Ka makes our cut of America’s scariest coasters because it stands at a shocking 456ft., making it the tallest roller coaster in the world to date.  It was originally designed to be the fastest since it flies across its tracks at an impressive 130mph, however as coasters continue to push the envelope it is no longer the world’s fastest.  Kingda Ka reaches its maximum speed in a swift 3.5 seconds.

4. El Toro at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ

If you are at the Six Flags in NJ and the Kingda Ka leaves you wanting more, stroll over to El Toro.  While you may not expect a wooden roller coaster to have the ability to get your adrenaline pumping, this one will blow you away.  Its highest point stands at 188 feet making it the third tallest roller coaster in the world.

3. Intimidator 305 at Kings Dominion in Doswell, VA

intimidator 305

The Intimidator was inspired by the speed and skill of Dale Earnhardt Sr.  It makes the list of scariest coasters for its sharp turns that render you weightless as you zip through its tracks.  The Intimidator actually had to be made less scary as it was causing riders to have temporary loss of consciousness!  It runs at a speed of 90mph and has a 300 foot drop.

2. Big Shot at Stratosphere Hotel in Las Vegas, NV

big shot

Vegas really does have it all!  While the Big Shot isn’t particularly fast or tall, it lives on top of the 100 story Stratosphere Hotel—this places you over 1000 feet from the boardwalk.  There are points in the ride where you are literally dangling above the Vegas strip.  The Big Shot reaches a speed of 45mph and its tallest point is 160 feet above the top of the hotel.

1. Superman Krypton Coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio, TX

superman krypton

Last but not least on our list of scariest coasters is the one and only Superman Krypton Coaster.  This coaster gives you the true illusion of flying because your legs dangle in this floorless track.  It differs from many coasters in that the track is above you, opposed to below you.  The ride boasts the world’s largest vertical loop and reaches speeds of up to 70mph.
