Top 5 Movies Of 2011

2011 was definitely the year of sagas in the sense that some of the best movies that were launched were sequels or a part of a much larger franchise. Many of these movies were even made into popular video games. These popular movies of 2011 ranged from pirates, robots, vampires and drunken middle aged men. We did not see many stand alone movies and those that were released were not always as popular as those that were part of a franchise.

The best movies of 2011 are:

5. Hangover II

The success of Hangover was incredible and everyone expected part II. Even if the movie was not that well received by movie critics because of the similarity of the storyline, the fans had a different view and that is why Hangover II ended up at this point in the top 5 movies of 2011. The wolf pack is back to their old problems and they, again, do not remember what happened to them. The pack gains a new member in a monkey and everything finishes well, although this only happens after the group goes through another incredible adventure. It biggest grossing R-rated comedy of all time and earned $581 million worldwide and $254 million domestically.

4. Twilight Saga – Breaking Dawn Part 1

The Twilight Saga is a another movie franchise that everyone has heard of. People seem to be divided. Some love the movies while others hate it. Breaking Dawn Part 1 sees the story of Edward and Bella as they want to marry. Jacob is also involved as he hears that Bella wants to consummate this marriage during the honeymoon. After the end of the wedding, the honeymoon is spent on the idyllic private island of Cullen but Bella is unfortunately pregnant. Quileutes try to put their hands on the child as it is a threat for the local Wolf Pack and the entire story is incredibly drawing and well written. The film earned $709 million worldwide and $281 million domestically.

3. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

This is the 4th installment of the highly popular Pirates of the Caribbean series, which basically made Johnny Depp even more popular than he already is. The main inspiration for the movie came from On Stranger Tides, a novel by Tim Powers. The synopsis sees Jack Sparrow joined by a new member of the cast, Angelica, in a search of the Fountain Of Youth. The bad guy was Blackbeard and the movie took the world by storm. The movie broke several box office records when it was released and is the 10th biggest grossing movie worldwide at just over $1 billion. It grossed $241 million domestically.

2. Transformers – Dark of the Moon

It seems like every single Transformers movie turns out to be a success and so was the case with Dark Of The Moon. The story is quite simple. Autobots find a secret Cybertronian spacecraft that is located on the moon and start racing against Decepticons to get to the final destination. The new villain in the movie is Shockwave and Sam Witwicky is brought back because of some secrets that he ends up being aware of. The movie was everything that you would expect from a science fiction film based on the Transformers characters with incredible special effects and quite a lot of humorous moments. The movie is the 5th biggest grossing film of all time at $1.1 billion worldwide. Domestically it earned $352 million.

1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

The last part of the incredibly popular Harry Potter series turned out to be the best movie of 2011. The story basically continues what happened in Deathly Hallows Part 1 and the group of young adventurers continues to look for the remaining Horcruxes of Voldemort. As expected, the Dark Lord learns about the plot and the biggest ever battle between good and evil begins. As before, millions of people crammed into cinemas from all around the world to see what happens and to see how Harry Potter manages to defeat the most evil thing that ever existed. The story of Harry might have come to an end but this final part of the franchise made everything incredibly attractive with an ending that few people expected to see. The film earned $1.3 billion worldwide and $381 million domestically.
